Independance Day

Burkina Faso

11. December 2021, 17:00–23:30 Uhr

With this event we contribute to the SDGs
4 (Education, 4.7, cultural diversity, culture’s contribution to sustainable development),
5 (Gender equality and empowerment of women),
12 (Responsible consumption and production),
17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

This event aims at the celebration of the anniversary of the independence of Burkina Faso. On this occasion, the Embassy of Burkina and the community of Burkinabé living in Austria have encouraged us, hemispheres, to organize this celebration which is also thought to foster the friendship between the two countries of Burkina Faso and Austria.

hemispheres was founded as a non-profit association which acts on the interface between art/culture and Sustainable Development. One of our members has been assigned as the artistic director, Adama Dicko, who is a well-known artist and native Burkinabé and who has been living in Austria for many years. He is one of the main actors to set up this diverse cultural program we are offering for this special day. For hemispheres, this event serves additional as a central platform for addressing global themes and challenges in the context of the SDGs.

Because of the diplomatic representation of Burkina Faso with an Embassy located in Vienna/Austria this event is also thought to be a multicultural and multidisciplinary meeting opportunity where artists, representatives of governments and institutions both from Austria and Burkina as well as invited diplomats of neighboring countries, national and African media as well as a diverse audience groups can meet and exchange. The official representative, his Excellency, the ambassador of Burkina Faso, Dieudonné Kere, will open the celebration.

The event program stands out by his high quality of artistic performances (please see below). Additionally, we will present a fashion show of the Burkinian creator Mariama Yameogo (Association des Créateurs Burkinabè de France (ACBF)“), living in Paris, working with organic cotton from Burkina Faso as well as an exhibition artisan work of nomadic women of the Sahel by Habsatou Dicko („Etoiles Pulaaku“), manifesting female culture, gender equity and empowerment.

The event location, the Viennese Urania, is a highly valued venue. For this celebration we could rent the Dachsaal which offers room for around 200 visitors. There is ample room for a wardrobe, a bar and the buffet, which will be provided by VELOBIS. Outside of the Dachsaal there is a magnificent view over the Vienna city center, where visitors can stroll, have a private exchange or simply as a designated area for smoking.
